Bruce Ullrey

The Caledonia Education Foundation is pleased to honor Bruce Ullery as its 2007 Honored Alumnus--for his leadership in business, his integrity in life, and for his continued commitment to the Caledonia community.

Bruce is a very humble persona quiet contributor who is not looking for accolades, says Jill Harrison, Executive Director of the Foundation. That makes it all the more fun to celebrate his success and honor his contributions to our community.

While attending CHS, Bruce Ullery played three sports football, basketball and track, was a member of the National Honor Society, and drama class with leading performances in South Pacific and Flowers for Algernon.

Bruce attended Grand Rapids Junior College graduating with an Associates Degree in 1977. He went on to earn a Bachelors degree in Business Administration, graduating summa cum laude from Western Michigan University in 1979.

Bruce worked as a certified public accountant for Arthur Andersen and Co. for ten years before joining MC Sports as Controller in 1989. In April of 1996, as Chief Financial Officer, he and the former CEO led a management buyout of the Company. The transaction returned ownership of MC Sports back to West Michigan from an investment-banking group on the West Coast. Bruce assumed his current position of President and CEO in 1998. MC Sports is a seventy-six store chain doing business in eight Midwestern states with over 1,500 employees. The company has opened seven to ten stores each of the past several years and plans another eight stores in 2008. Bruce also serves as the Chairman of the National Sporting Goods Association.

In 1979, Bruce married his high school sweetheart, Patti Maier (CHS Class of 1976). The Ullerys have four children Katie, Kari, Kyle, and Kimi. All are graduates of Caledonia High School.
