Mini Grants (under $500)
- Duncan Lake Early Childhood Center STEM projects—$500 -- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) materials purchased for preschoolers will help them learn through exploration and play which will lead to an understanding of early science and math skills.
- Video Cameras— $420 -- Three new video cameras were purchased for the high school music department that are used to record hundreds of playing tests each year. They also will allow live streaming capability at concerts, enabling performances to be broadcast to the community.
- Caledonia Odyssey of the Minds— $500 -- Funds were given to help cover registration costs for the Emmons Lake Elementary team that was privileged to go to the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals in Lansing, MI and placed 6th in their division.
- LINKS Whitecaps Game— $462 -- Students with autism and cognitive impairments from the Caledonia High School LINKS/ MOCI Room worked on social, independence, and communication goals while attending the Michigan Whitecaps baseball game with their LINKS mentor. Grant funds covered the bus transportation for the outing.
- The Empowerment Project—$500 -- Grant money was used to purchase supplies for an event sponsored by the Caledonia Mental Health Committee. The event targeting young women featured an expo, documentary, and panel of speakers, all dealing with the topics of career exploration and planning.
- Have a Good Trip—Buen Viaje— $500 --The Kettle Lake Elementary Music and Spanish Departments treated fourth and fifth grade students to authentic and hands on experiences and lessons about Hispanic Culture.
- Speaker—Aaron Zenz— $500 -- Caledonia Elementary students were treated to a presentation on the process of creativity in terms of how to develop ideas and use one’s imagination by Aaron Zenz.
- Spanish books for the Classroom--Free Voluntary Reading—$2000 -- Multiple grants were awarded to all three high school Spanish teachers to purchase various levels of Spanish reading books for choice reading in all levels of Spanish classes.
- Lion King Performance— $500 -- Eighth grade students from both middle school choirs attended the traveling Broadway troupe’s performance of the Lion King.
- Coffee Cart Friday— $383 --Start up materials were purchased that will allow Kraft Meadows Middle School students with intellectual disabilities to practice life skills through a coffee business.
- T1 Smartview for the Smartboard— $476 --The high school and both middle schools were awarded funds to purchase graphing calculator software accessed through the computer that allows for the projection of keystrokes, tables ,and graphs onto the Smartboard.
- Social Thinking Healthy Minds— $308 -- Grant funds purchased a lending library for staff at Emmons Lake Elementary to support socio-emotional skills (patience, anxiety, teamwork, disappointment, social skills, etc) for all students.
Barbara Gall Grants for Language Arts
- Listening Centers with Audiobooks—$1691 -- New listening centers comprised of Samsung Galaxy E-Tablets and sets of headphones will allow for group learning experiences for preschoolers that will engage them with books in a variety of ways.
- Duncan Lake Middle School Library Update— $2350 -- New café stools, laminate tables, and floor rockers were purchased to enhance the reading and studying environment in the library.
- Duncan Lake Weight Room Equipment— $11,085 --Funds were given towards the purchase of new elliptical machines, treadmills, and stationary bikes for the weight room that is used by students, staff, community members and senior citizens.
- Wobble Stools— $700 --Wobble stools were purchased for Kettle Lake students that require sensory input in order to sustain attention in the classroom and achieve academic success.
- Salmon in the Classroom— $948 --Dutton Elementary fourth and fifth grade students purchased supplies and equipment, and salmon to raise in the classroom. They released them into a local watershed at the end of the year.
- Caledonia Bands Instrument Purchase— $6785 -- A tuba, mellophone, and sousaphone were purchased for the Caledonia Bands which enables students to learn to play these cost-prohibitive instruments.
- VEX VX Robotics— $1000 -- Grant funds purchased new “Brain Kits” needed to upgrade the control systems for the robots.
- Veterans History Project -- $1400 --Grant funds provided transportation and supplies that enabled high school history students to have the unique experience of visiting the Yankee Air Museum, interviewing veterans, and flying in a WWII B-17 Bomber.
